In the quiet town of Habbnamra in
western rural Homs, a long‑abandoned home reopened its doors to life, becoming
a vibrant cultural space that brought residents together around shared memory.
The art exhibition, held inside a house whose owners were forcibly displaced
years ago, emerged as a community initiative aimed at breathing life back into
homes marked by absence and loss, transforming them into spaces filled with
creativity and belonging.
Artworks Born from the Spirit of the Place
The exhibition featured a wide
range of artistic works, including wooden and stone sculptures, visual art
paintings, traditional crochet pieces, and handcrafted decorative items created
by local residents. The event also included live musical performances, blending
music with visual art to revive the atmosphere of the home in all its details.
Breaking the Silence of Closed Homes
George Mikhael, the exhibition
organizer, explained that the initiative aims to break the silence of abandoned
homes and revive them through community‑oriented artistic and cultural
activities. He noted that the event reflects the commitment of the town’s
expatriates to supporting cultural and social initiatives that reconnect them
with their roots.
Music as an Expression of Belonging
Accordion player Naya Qazma
expressed her joy in participating, saying that performing in this particular
place carries emotional significance that goes beyond a musical show, becoming
an act of collective cultural expression and belonging.
A Community Rising Beyond the Impact of War
Several attendees highlighted the
importance of such events in revitalizing cultural life in the town. Public
relations officer Maksim Nader stated that these activities demonstrate the
vitality of local communities and their role in rebuilding civil society, which
was deeply affected during the years of conflict. He emphasized the need to
continue supporting similar initiatives to strengthen ties between residents
and expatriates.
